Years ago, at 25 years old, I asked myself a question that changed everything. “What do I want my life to look like in five years?”
The answer to this question catapulted me from where I was – a place of uncertainty about where to go next – to a proactive stance where I could take intentional action to create the future I wanted.
After peeling back all the layers and asking myself a lot more scary questions, I wrote out my Vision for every facet of my life – personal, professional, financial, spiritual, and relational – for five years out from that exact day. The feeling of having completed my Vision for the next 5 years was incredible. I felt like I now had a compass, and I was so excited to start moving forward!
That’s where it all started.
Fast forward, and now it’s been over six years since I launched my coaching and training company, True North Visionaries, where I’ve had the opportunity to work with leaders in North America, Europe, Australia and Asia. These Visionaries span industries and backgrounds, but they all have something in common: They want to be proactive and intentional about creating their life, instead of allowing their life to happen to them.
We all have endless decisions to make as we build and grow our businesses, our teams, and ourselves. How do we filter out the distractions from the real opportunities? How can we create a plan, when we don’t know what we’re planning for?
Clarifying what success means to you at a specific point in the future will give you that filter so you can become a more effective leader, make better decisions faster, decrease burnout and frustration, and shift from being reactive to proactive in 5 key areas of your life.
